Anesthesiology for Orthopedic Surgery
Anesthesia for orthopedic surgery is a unique and specialized field of Anesthesiology. All of the anesthesiologists at Presbyterian Orthopedic Hospital share a passion for orthopedic anesthesia. Our team of Board Certified physicians works closely with your surgeon to create a safe and modern environment for your surgery.

Our goals are to decrease your anxiety, provide excellent medical care in the operating room and alleviate your pain after surgery. Orthopedic patients are special because most of you are experiencing pain in your daily lives. From the child with special needs, to the young professional athlete, to the arthritic patient needing a total joint replacement; we want to tackle your pain. Getting you back to normal as fast as possible is our number one job.

 Pain Control After Orthopedic Surgery

Pain control after Orthopedic Surgery actually starts before your surgery. It has been proven that when the body doesn’t feel pain during surgery that there is less pain after surgery. One of the best ways to stop the pain before it starts is for your anesthesiologist to do a nerve block before you have surgery.

The anesthesiologists at Presbyterian Orthopedic Hospital are specialists in nerve blocks. We use the most modern Ultrasound machines available in the country to help us “numb” the part of your body that is having surgery. Many times we can place a “pain catheter” that will stay in for one to three days to give you continuous help with your pain. Sometimes a pain catheter will give you complete relief; however, if you still have pain with the catheter in place it is safe to receive additional pain medication like morphine or Demerol.
